RIAA Reaches Deal with ISP’s in Fight Against Music Piracy
The RIAA announces that they are working with Internet Service Providers to monitor illegal downloading of music. The ISP’s will send out emails to offenders, warning them of possible punishments, which could include temporarily throttling bandwith or redirecting the user to a blocked page until they reach the ISP directly. This deal will mostly make it difficult for illegal downloaders to feign ignorance if sued by the RIAA. US Mid-year Album Sales Up For the First Time Since 2004
Mid-year album sales for 2011 are up 1% from album sales in 2010, the first sign of growth in recorded album sales in 7 years. This is mostly due to the 10% spike in digital sales seen this year compared to last.
