Concert Review: Delicate Steve @ Millennium

The grass was mildly damp, most likely from the storm that ravaged the trees near my house, took out my power for days in the middle of summer, and made me late for work. The sun didn’t seem to mind that afternoon, still calm and generously heating my chest as I lay on the grass face up. Despite my clothes being a little wet after sitting in the field, the weather was a pleasant surprise, unexpectedly tranquil compared with how my Monday had begun.

When the weather is right, the atmosphere at Millennium Park, situated in the smack of downtown Chicago, doesn’t get much better than on the beach in some exotic foreign country. Wind slightly blowing, some Frisbee throwing, even more booze flowing, and great music, Delicate Steve playing in the background, set the mood for the rest of the evening.

I was quite impressed actually. The Delicate Steve members looked no older than just able to legally drink, yet their sound is full, set is tight, and spirits high. Most people were in the lawn, relaxing to their jam band(ish)  energy, but reactions were similar to mine, “These guys can hold their own ground on that large Chicago stage.” The lead guitarists is a true talent who commands his guitar to the levels of a professional (Steve I presume). Yet, the creative process that these guys create was more awe-inspiring than the virtuosity of each individual player. I highly recommend seeing these guys.
